Subscriber Spotlight: Shawanna Vaughn

In this week's Diverge Subscriber Spotlight introducing our team of incredible subscribers for our radically inclusive proposed federal credit union, we are proud to present Shawanna Vaughn (she/her).

Shawanna Vaughn is the Founder of Silent Cry, Inc., a Harlem-based non-profit organization that takes a holistic approach to aftercare from mass incarceration, gun violence, and trauma.

Shawanna Vaughn (she/her)

Silent Cry is the product of the tears Shawanna shed while overcoming the pain and hardship of incarceration, the loss of a brother to gang initiation, and surviving cancer.

Seeing a gap in critical services and mental health support for current and formerly incarcerated people like herself, Shawanna wrote her own rights into a bill, the Post Traumatic Prison Disorder Act Shawanna W76337, which has since been introduced in the New York State Senate.

Shawanna holds an Associate of Science in Physical Therapy from Milan Institute-Visalia.

Shawanna is also currently a candidate running to represent District 70 in the New York State Assembly, which encompasses the neighborhood of Harlem in New York City.
